What is Drawing and Talking Therapy?
Drawing and Talking Therapy is the number one alternative to CBT and direct talking therapies, that can often be confronting or limiting in the processing of pain or trauma. As an attachment-based therapeutic intervention, Drawing and Talking Therapy is designed to complement CAMHS and other specialist therapies, which enables children or young people, who would otherwise go untreated, to get the help they need before problems become entrenched. The Drawing and Talking technique is a safe and easy to learn short term, time-limited therapy to be used with anyone (age 5+) who is experiencing underlying emotional difficulties or has suffered trauma. It focuses on healing underlying emotional pain.
Drawing enables a child to express, in a visual form, worries from deep in the mind that they would not be able to talk about. Very often children don’t always know what is wrong themselves. Drawing enables symbolic and safe expression of deep worries and feelings that may seem scary to a child.
